Barefoot in Barrington

I love to talk about barefoot running and baking, but never over the phone.

7:20 AM Perfection February 9, 2010

Turns out 7:20 is the perfect time on a school morning to run with Butter. 7-7:18 pack lunches, make toast, pour milk. 7:19 put on running clothes & hook dog to leash. Then run. At this perfect moment, there are no teens or tweens at the bus stops. You and the dog can make it onto the Greenway before the gawking school buses start prowling. While on the Greenway, they all do what they need to do and when you emerge from the woods, they’ve gone.

The sky so blue, the air so cold, the dog so happy. Every time we run, I think he’s kind of slow. But he bursts into full muscularity as we get close to home. Lovely.

OK! That seven mile run was a mistake. I could hardly use my foot the next day. I’ve been sleeping in the PF cast. Dutifully.

Anway, yesterday I ran with the glowing raw food girls. Lovely, sunny, cold, and with a souvenir of raw sprouted lentil soup to make me vibrate. So good.

My First Good & Plenty Seven January 28, 2010

I took a movie to show how empty the bike path is. But I can not figure out how to upload it. It’s a really boring, gray movie. The point of the film is to ask: where are all of the sports persons and layabouts?

Very happy that the good and plentys are good for seven. Now Mim and I have a challenge: to run the length of the bike path to celebrate our birthdays this spring. I believe it is 14 miles.

Dusk January 24, 2010

A damp gray day, ended with running with Butter through the ice-chunked mud.

What am I Oprah? I don’t have to post a photo of my sweaty self with every one of these.

In terms of baking: so much Lahey bread, so many fabulous cookies.

Cheers to Butter January 21, 2010

Butter is a good runner. He’s a little slow for mile two, but finishes strong. Not too distracted by elderly cyclists, dead leaves, or squirrels. Cheers to you, Butter. I’d never have gone out for a run today if not for you.

At Least Butter’s Barefoot January 20, 2010

Butter ran with me today. Never before had I thought he could run in a straight enough line not to trip me. Today it seemed to make sense. He loves to run. I love to run. It takes a long time to walk him three miles. So…

He was great! What a companion! He pulls me along when I’m slow. He runs beside me and smiles at me as if to say, “Isn’t this GREAT?!” He admires the cove along New Meadow. Good dog.

The snow is all melty. There’s tons of mud, lots of icy, wet patches, and the revealed dead leaves are the color of bacon but in a menacing way. It’s a fairly dreadful day. People like me need dogs to enjoy this weather. Also Ibex clothing.

PYT into A-Punk January 14, 2010

PYT into A-Punk is very happy-making.

I went out to run my old loop. It’s loop I ran when we first moved here, and my only chance to run would be when Joe got home from work and it would be dark. The bridge part of the bike path, the bridge where I fell and broke my nose, was icy. So I turned around and came back. Actually the whole path looks icy.

Still love my Good n Plentys.

What kind of person has TWO Lara bars, a mango, and apple, and a greek yogurt for a mid-morning SNACK? I was very hungry.

Butter was on the front lawn, patiently and alertly waiting. When we came inside he bolted right into his crate. What a guy!

Today the boys send off for their passports.
